We spoke about attending SBN this weekend, and Scott mentioned if everyone was interested that you can meet at the rest stop on I-4... I will let him post the details on that time and place, but I wanted to make a few comments about SBN that I didn't think about at the meeting because I'm not quite feeling up to par the past few days because of an ear infection. Anyways, I grew up in the Daytona Beach area and SBN is a lot of fun, especially cruising on the beach during SB itself. Over the years the police presence has become overwhelming over the top. And that is probably putting it lightly. I don't mean to discourage anyone from attending because I myself am really psyched up for once since the Mazda has come so far, so I am definatley feeling the urge to check out the fun. However, I feel it VERY important to point out in these economic times that is it VERY (scratch that) HIGHLY LIKELY you WILL GET A TICKET in a CUSTOM VEHICLE while AT SBN. The cops know no bounds when it comes to providing revenue for the city of Daytona Beach. (I worked for them at one point in my life, so I speak from the inside.) Now, that being said. If you choose to go to Daytona I recommend you be on your VERY best behaviour when driving around. Refrain from cruising A1A. Stick to the back streets if you know them. Keep your stereo down, and your hands OFF the switches for the air bags, train horns, etc. if you don't want to increase your chances for a ticket. Oh, and I wouldn't even THINK about This is Daytona Beach... they have NOTHING better to do than give you a ticket!!! They are not OPD and have bigger fish to fry like crime, etc. In Daytona, YOU are the REVENUE!!! OK, all that said, IF I go, and it's a BIG IF... I will be taking the back roads for various reasons. One is that I actually want to cruise slowly for part of the experience, and two because I just don't trust the Mazda on the highway yet. It still needs brake work. I won't know for sure if I'm going or not until later this week. Other than my ominous warning, have fun!!! So, feel free to use this thread to make plans to meetup, ETC. |
